Stripes in SoHo

During my trip to NYFW, I wanted to represent Canadian fashion south of the border, and I was so excited to team up with Joe Fresh for a couple of looks. I wore a Joe Fresh striped dress with a chic Mackage coat for a comfortable look I wore while taking in the shows and shopping around SoHo. It was so freezing, that I only wanted to be uncomfortable in one way, so I decided to freeze instead of subjecting my feet to running around in heels all day. I noticed a lot more girls at fashion week skipping heels in favour of chic ankle boots and flat over the knee boots, and I thought my lace up flats were a great way to add interest to my outfit. I'm wearing a Joe Fresh striped dress (c/o), a wool coat by Mackage, an Alexander Wang Prisma backpack, tights c/o Secret and lace up flats from Old Navy (oh yes, believe it.) that are sold out, but here's a similar pair. Behind the Scenes: Leanne Marshall FW 2016 with Aveda

At NYFW, I had the unique experience to go backstage with Aveda and check out their hair and makeup team get the models ready for the runway. Here's a look behind the scenes: Leanne Marshall FW 2016. behind the scenes leanne marshall (4 of 18) For hair, Aveda artists used the brand's flexible hold Air Control Hair Spray. A neat part about this product is that it eliminates static which was a high priority with the frigid temperatures that week! The look for the show was inspired by macramé, but was far from boho. The low ponytail was so unique in that cobra knots were created out of the hair itself. I can't wait to recreate the look myself, and hide those pesky hair ties. behind the scenes leanne marshall (17 of 18) I also had the chance to sneak a peek into the dressing room where the gorgeous gowns were getting last minute finishes. The designer, Leanne Marshall, was there answering a few questions for press. "For me it's how many different ways can I make this one material appear." Marshall's design philosophy was evident by the textures of her gowns, with pleats, ruffles, lace and contrasting materials. I loved having a glimpse into the last minute show preparations, and experiencing the "calm chaos" of trying to darn the last hems to get the gowns sent down the runway.

Spring Break in Bikini Village

For reading week, my sister was lucky enough to head to sunny Florida. Besides her Minnie Mouse ears, the first thing she packed were a few new bikinis from Bikini Village. Just in time for spring break, their website stocks plenty of mid to high-end swimwear brands like Vitamin A, Nanette Lepore, Billabong and my new favourite, Maaji. My sister took a couple Maaji suits with her on vacation, which incorporate a few of the hottest swimwear trends.

Jay Godfrey FW 2016

The first show I attended at NYFW was the Jay Godfrey FW 2016 presentation. I was excited to check out his slinky gowns and sexy evening pieces. jay godfrey fall 2016 (7 of 9) jay godfrey fall 2016 (3 of 9) The collection featured some new takes on eveningwear, with plenty of jumpsuits, gowns with cutouts and dresses over pants. These are trends I've seen on many bloggers, and I love that it's now being translated to formal wear. The colour palette was an interesting mix of jewel tones; sapphires, purples, and emeralds, as well as muted mauves and pinks. Jay Godfrey is sold online at Nordstrom and on Revolve Clothing.
