Feliz Cinco de Mayo y DIY Neon Ombre Pants

Feliz Cinco de Mayo y DIY Neon Ombre Pants

Feliz Cinco de Mayo! Deseo tomar una margarita a la playa, pero soy en Canada. While I won’t be enjoying a margarita beachside this Cinco de Mayo, I wanted to share an outfit I wore while in Mexico over Christmas, and as a special treat, a how-to on my amazing neon ombre pants.

I’m wearing a neon green lace croptop from Primark (similar here), DIY ombre pants, neon plastic flip flops from Aldo (similar here) and Prada Sunglasses.

This DIY is super simple once you acquire the supplies:

1. White cotton pants (mine are from Chinatown)

2. S.E.I. Tumble dye (I used the neon green from the neon trio)

3. Plastic Bag to protect your area

4. A clothes dryer

Step One: Protect your area with a plastic bag. Since I’m only doing the bottoms, a grocery bag is big enough. If your fabric is thin, you might want to but a piece of cardboard in the pant leg to prevent the dye from transferring through to the other side.

Step Two: Spray the dye onto the cuffs of the pants in thick circular sprays. You want to saturate the bottoms to create a strong colour.

Step Three: Lightly spray the next section. This might take practice to get the proper ombre effect, but a good tip is to hold the bottle at a further distance, so it’s more like a mist of colour instead of a concentrated spray.

Step Four: Carefully flip the pant leg over and repeat the same process on the other side, making sure to catch the sides and seams as well!

Step Five: Repeat the same process on the other pant leg.

Step Six: Let the pants dry for 2-4 hours.

Step Seven: Throw the pants into your dryer at medium or high heat to set the dye. Follow the directions on the back of s.e.i. tumble dye.

This DIY is really simple, and only takes about 15 minutes for the dye application. It’s a fun way to spruce up a plain pair of beach pants, or a good way to liven up drap white tee or dress.

This is such a nice diy! You can do it with other colors as well, right? Or maybe with colored pants or jeans and bleach stuff (I don’t know the word, I mean liquid to make something white, bleekmiddel) so you’ll have some awesome pants with a white bottom or top! Lovely inspiration. 🙂

Hi Anna… yes you could do it with any colour! I love the sei dye because it’s fast drying and perfect for ombre because it has a spray bottle. The company sells the dye in dozens of colours.

I want to try doing the same with bleach as well! Maybe I will use an empty spray bottle, fill it with bleach and do the same process… thanks for the great idea!
