Fall Preview – Pressdays at Lotus Leaf Communications

A week ago, I had the chance to take a sneak peek at what brands represented by Lotus Leaf have in store for Fall 2013. Lotus Leaf Communications is a lifestyle PR agency, and they opened their showroom to the media to preview fall offerings from brands like Dr. Martens, GUESS, Roxy, Fossil and more. Watch the video below to see some of the fall collections.

Before heading into the preview, they snapped a photo and guests could enjoy a macaroon or cupcake from Frost Toronto.

Afterwards, I was sucked into fall with GUESS‘ Fall 2013 collection. With jeans in rich colours and metallics, this fall seems to continue with last season’s embellished denim trends.

I fell in love with Dr. Marten’s fall 2013 collection. In rich shades of aubergine, and classic neutrals, the collection took on new forms with heeled incarnations. Fabrics seemed to be a strong focus in the collection, with many boots featuring silk paisley print, classic punk plaid and one pair had a classic toile with rebellious graffiti markings. Other boots had embellishments like studs or glitter. Glitter and combat boots- it’s a combination so ironic it works.

Another shoe brand featured at the event was Insolito Terra. The brand is made of high quality materials and has concealed lifts to give shorter men a little incognito boost.

BB Dakota‘s fall collection featured graphic prints, but I fell in love with an aztec printed coat. The collection is available in Canada on StyleCloud.com.

Hanging from the ceiling were umbrellas from Raindrops, a store in the Holt Renfrew center that specializes in haute rain gear. Since most of the year we experience inclement weather, you might as well have fun with your outerwear. I loved the cheeky “Merde Il Pleut” umbrella.

My jaw nearly dropped when I saw the table from WATCH IT! an accessory retailer that specializes in watches. I definitely have to pick up a Russian Matryoshka Swatch watch, that even came in its own little nesting doll. It was also great seeing styles from Fossil, which gave a clue into what trends are emerging for timepieces. Blue dials are a huge trend for men (and even women) which has a retro feel, but very classic as well.

At Fossil, large watch faces are still as hot as ever, except that the bands are skinnier and some even have leather or charms attached for a whimsical feel. At Michael Kors, the watches for women are mixing metals and putting even tortoiseshell into the mix. While I thought rosegold might be a passing fad, it seems that it is here to stay as a metal neutral along with gold and silver.

I was also really excited to get a peek at Roxy‘s newest collection which launches in May and June. Full of tribal prints, florals and gorgeous colours, the beachy line is perfect now that the weather is getting better.

manitobah mukluks fall 2013

All winter long, I’ve worn my Manitobah Mukluks for warmth, comfort and functionality. The boots are made in Canada by Aboriginals. They are a responsible choice, because the workers are paid fair wages and it stimulates their economy.

Beyond the social benefits of this brand, I can honestly say that their design is advantageous over other mukluk brands, thanks to the Vibram sole which can stand up to a harsh Canadian winter on the city streets.

For fall, the collection is incorporating beautiful shades of pastels, but the rest of the boots are always a Canadian classic for cooler weather.

cocoa jewelry fall 2013 cocoa jewelry statement necklace cocoa jewelry statement necklace green

Cocoa Jewelry had a table full of sparkly baubles. I felt like a magpie and was drooling over the sparkly statement jewelry. Available at Shoppers Drug Mart and now Target, the line has affordable  pieces that add a unique and elegant touch to an outfit. I loved all the statement necklaces and the rich emerald and sapphire tones of the fall collection. Currently, they have a campaign where if you buy one of their Boobie Bracelets, $5 will be donated from the sale, but if you tweet a photo of you wearing it, money will be donated per photo! I loved the way they integrated social media into charity efforts.

While fall is still a while away, I enjoyed getting a taste of what’s to come.
