Bird printed spring dress + dutch braid crown tutorial

Bird printed spring dress + dutch braid crown tutorial

One of my favourite parts about spring is being able to finally wear nice things again. I feel like all winter long, I’ve been wearing a casual combo of jeans and a wool sweater to stay warm and comfortable in class. Now that school and winter is finally drawing to a close, I’ve been wearing a new uniform: a printed spring dress, little bag and cute flats or booties.

I’m wearing a bird printed spring dress, Zara pink suede booties, Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses, leather quilted wallet on chain from Saks Fifth Avenue, pearl earrings and a Daniel Wellington watch.

dutch braid hairstyle

My hair is always a bit unruly, being long, thick and naturally wavy (codeword: frizzy), I always find that doing braided hairstyles take a lot of gel, hairspray and wrangling and they never end up looking as bohemian and carefree as I want. I think this dutch braid hairstyle was a moderate success. To copy the look (I’m seriously no expert), start buy taking a 3″ section on one side near your crown, and do a dutch french braid to your ear, adding in thin strands as you go along. Once you’ve collected all the hair near the front of your ear, continue to do a simple dutch braid and tie it off with a clear elastic. Start to pull apart the braid by gently tugging on sections.

On the other side of your head, you can do another dutch braid, or do a simple twist. Once you have two “braids” you can twist them into a rose/bun and secure with pins. Use hairspray to keep flyaways at bay (mine cannot be tamed) and pull apart the braid in the front some more. My hair is super heavy and needs tons of bobby pins, so when you try this at home, try to hide them a little better than me! Haha.

I’m also happy to finally have an excuse to wear sunglasses again! My mom picked up these gorgeous printed Dolce & Gabbana almond flower sunglasses for me in Florida, and I love the springy design and quirky cat eye shape.

I love how these pink suede booties are matchy-matchy with the dress’ colour scheme, but are also a modern contrast to black tights. I can’t wait to wear these booties with a white lace dress or denim shorts soon!
