Attitude Jay Manuel S/S 2012

Last night at LG Fashion Week, America’s Next Top Model’s Jay Manuel unveiled his Spring/Summer 2012 Collection for Attitude at Sears.

The show had a full house, with people waiting over 45 minutes to get seated.  The collection was very safe, with pieces that were meant for the beach.

The most exciting part of the show was when Canadian supermodel, Yasmin Warsame fell on the catwalk thanks to the dangers of a fog machine.  Did anyone else find it ironic that she fell when “I Will Survive” was playing?

I loved the large, agate stone necklaces dangling on the necks of models.  Agate stones have an eclectic vibe and they add a unique touch to a casual outfit.

I’m upset this photo is so blurry, but I thought this clutch reminded me of the Mulberry Alexa clutch.  The collection featured a range of handbags in a lot of bright colours like kelly green and cobalt, so I hope this clutch will come in green as well come spring.

I thought this outfit was well refined.  I liked the subtle middle-eastern touch with the loose-fitting tank, turban and pants.  I thought it was balanced and very easy to wear.

The jumpsuits were also very chic, in an effortless way.  My only criticism is that we’ve seen this before, and there is nothing special or interesting about the cut, shape or material in these one pieces.

I really liked the blue and white print on this dress and a couple other pieces.  It reminds me of a china cup, and the print was very striking, it reminded of me of Alexander McQueen…

One of the only blazers in the collection, this black number with white lapels was paired with bikini bottoms and feather earrings… which begs the question; Who was the stylist?  It’s as if a corporate girl decided to take off her pencil skirt, throw on some feathers, roll up her sleeves and hit the beach in the middle of the work week.

This was another example of bad styling.  Three huge bangles + a wide belt + sunglasses + a scarf wrapped as a turban = trying to hide the fact that the garment itself is mediochre.

While I get the look Manuel was going for, I just found it overdone and stuck in the past.

He was definitely influenced by Missoni.  The wavy print is one lawsuit away from being confused with the eponymous zig-zags.  However, this was one of the few looks from the collection I actually liked.

In comparison to Manuel’s tailored and elegant Fall 2011 collection, this one needed more direction.  Sadly, he failed to be able to bring the “fashion” to fast fashion.
