El Rey Ruins

One of my favourite parts of my trip to Cancun was visiting the El Rey Ruins in the Hotel Zone. I couldn’t believe that only 15 minutes away from my hotel, there were archeological ruins on the skinny Cancun strip. We took the bus for a dollar, and got off at the Museo Maya de Cancun – which was a big mistake. We got off about 3 stops too early and had to walk about 20 minutes to get to the site. It was worth it though, because the peaceful, calm archeological site was completely deserted from tourists and you could even climb up the small pyramid.

I’m wearing a white lace dress from Zara (similar here), Anemone leather sandals c/o Iris Sandals, Miu Miu glitter sunglasses and a Longchamp snakeskin bag.

This dress feels dressy, but it’s light as air in the heat! My Iris sandals are so comfy, and pull the neutral look together. I’m glad I had a huge bag to tote around sunscreen, my camera and some drinks for the long walk.

A lot of people come here to see the iguanas, however I only saw a couple!

After visiting the site, we ended up walking back to the Mayan museum again, and stopped at Playa Delfines to take a look at the famous beach and take some pictures with the Cancun sign. The beach was stunning, and even had wifi and free washrooms! I loved that it got sun all day, and kind of wish I spent every afternoon here at this gorgeous spot.

The Mayan museum is a total must-see. It’s about $6USD to get in (they only accept pesos) and is full of archeological pieces from Quintana Roo. The architecture of the building is stunning and is a great addition to the El Rey Ruins. The museum also has ruins on site, but they were closed as we got there way too late.

I would definitely recommend visiting both the El Rey Ruins and the museum. Take advantage of the convenient bus system and head over there in the afternoon to check out the sights and then relax on the beach!
