Mayan Riviera

I came home two days ago from the pristine turquoise waters and blazing hot sun of the Mayan Riviera in Mexico. I had an amazing trip, and even though I was only gone for 5 nights, we managed to pack in so many activities and got to enjoy some of the best attractions in the region, as well as indulging in some much-needed R&R.

Tequila sunrises and margaritas on the beach – the best way to start the day. We stayed at the Azul Fives resort near Playa Del Carmen. It was in the middle of everything and had amazing food, including gluten-free options which was incredible to find away from home.

I spent nearly everyday beachside on one of these beach beds, soaking up the sun and reading magazines. The beach bar butler, Imelda was fabulous and so sweet! She took care of us and was always smiling.

When I’m at the beach, I need a coverup that’s light, but provides coverage. This cotton kaftan was made in India and features a gorgeous floral pattern and easy breezy cut. I bought it from the Papiniano market in Milan for all of 10 euros. I wish I picked up five more of them, I love it so much.

I accessorized it with this coral bead necklace, that’s a perfect stand-in for J. Crew’s famous Bubble Necklace. You can find a cheaper version of the bauble here.

The hotel had so many beautiful features and amenities, including this infinity pool that looked like it was pouring into the Caribbean sea.

… and hammock lounging areas.

Of course, I like to spend most of my time soaking up the sun and wading in the warm waters of the sea. The hotel’s entrance to the beach was a bit rocky, but a short walk away we found the softest sand, where you were knee deep for 100 m from the shore.

While walking around one day, I met Poncho, the adorable little pup. He was so cuddly and adorable! His mama was a sweetheart too and didn’t mind us taking pictures with him.

I always feel better in the humid, tropical air… it always reminds me of my grandparents’ Florida home. I took a ton of amazing photos from some attractions and towns in the area that I can’t wait to share with you, so stay tuned…
