Fifty Shades of Fall 2012

Fifty Shades of Fall 2012

Once the thick glossy September issues of fashion magazines hit newsstands, it’s official that fall is in the air. Like the changing leaves, shift your colour palette from sorbet shades of pastels into fall’s rich hues. See my favourite fall shades featured on 29secrets.com.

Red is a dominant colour this season, ranging from  crimson shades to rich, bloody bordeaux.  This colour is perfect as an  accent piece. Think a statement bag in Bordeaux or a rich cable-knit sweater from H&M ($18).  But this season, you can even include red in your everyday wardrobe for  a chic and trendy look.  Oxblood coloured jeans mix in easily with  neutrals and a burgundy leather top is two trends in one.

Rich green teal was seen on a pantsuit at Prabal Gurung, and sexy  gowns at Gucci. Channel runway style with the colour on a vintage leather  satchel or slacks. The colour mixes amazingly with anything, and a pair  of teal skinnies will make you look cool and casual when the temperature  drops soon.

Often reserved after memorial day, navy, the classic nautical neutral  is making a comeback this season. Steal Kate Middleton’s royal style  with a classic navy blazer from Smythe. The colour looks amazing on any woman, and so do tuxedo pantsuits. Don head-to-toe navy for the ultimate power suit.

Leopard print might not be a colour, but in any fall  wardrobe, it might as well be. Wear the print as a neutral on jackets and accessories or work in the print with a cozy cashmere  scarf or on a hot pair of tuxedo slippers by Jessica ($30).

It seems that fifty shades of blue are buzzworthy this season!  Cobalt is the most exciting colour to incorporate into your wardrobe for  fall. The Pantone colour institute named Olympian Blue (a royal shade  of blue) as one of their fashion color report fall 2012 colours. Reitmans 3/4 sleeved blazer in cobalt ($60) adds punch to drab grey work pants, or wear it on your feet with pointy-toe stilettos for eye-catching gams.

Like the warm shades of leaves on the trees, yellow has taken a  departure from summer neon for fall. A mustard-coloured sweater dress  or cozy wool jacket is colourful and appropriate. This loose sweater from Jessica at Sears ($40) is the perfect layering piece.

I love the transition of summer pastels into the jewel tones and cozy shades of Fall. But if you’re itching to wear shorts again already, Pantone unveiled their Spring 2013 color trend palette, inspired by the Spring 2013 collections from New York Fashion Week designers, which kicks off today!

Although I’m excited for African Violet and Grayed Jade next season, right now, I’m all about cobalt and oxblood! What colours are you excited to wear when the mercury dips?
