Spring Pastels and a Striped Umbrella – Featured on College Fashionista!

This week, I’m featured on College Fashionista! My journalism classmate, Christina Dun took pictures of me when it was raining buckets outside, but this look injects colour on a gray, rainy day.

I’m wearing a mint blazer from H&M, a lilac chiffon blouse, a rosette skirt from American Apparel, booties from Paris, a schoolbag c/o Nowistyle, a coral bracelet from Joe Fresh and a striped pink umbrella from Victoria’s Secret.

Here’s a little excerpt from my interview with Dun, which you can read in full at College Fashionista.

CollegeFashionista: How would you describe your style?

Natalie Ast: My style is feminine, colourful and classic. I’m not influenced by trends. You will never see me in a wedged sneaker, but I do like incorporating new colours or trendy pieces into my overall look.

CF: What are a few of your wardrobe staples?

NA: Day dresses are definitely a staple in my wardrobe. Sometimes I get so frustrated with not finding something to wear. I can always count on throwing a dress on, though, adding some sparkly jewelry and a killer bag to make an outfit.

CF: Where do you look for fashion inspiration?

NA: Fashion inspiration comes from a number of places for me. I look to other bloggers and people from online communities, like Lookbook, for ways to incorporate trends. However, I am always inspired by old photographs and editorials. It’s amazing how sites like Pinterest and Tumblr have categorized sources of inspiration like this. Before, I would go through my mother’s old stack of Vogues from the ’70s and ’80s!

CF: Has Ryerson’s city campus influenced the way you dress at all?

NA: Ryerson’s location has definitely influenced the way I dress. I think in terms of practicality and the way I pull my outfits together. As a broadcast journalism student, I’ve learned which colours look good on camera and I always try to dress with a sense of polish. As a commuter student, though, I’m often running around all day, covering events and going back and forth, so I’ve sadly had to ditch my stilettos in favour of more comfortable footwear. Ryerson has so many creative programs. I love passing by the fashion hallway and seeing how people dress. When I’m having a jeans-and-tee kind of day, they sometimes put me in my place.
