Runway to Real Life: Dolce & Gabbana Pepper Dress

The Italian kitchen. Onions, peppers, parmesan, garlic and of course, tomatoes come to mind. The get ups at Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring 2012 collection were inspired by the Italian kitchen and 50s housewives. With cinched-waist dresses, bustiers and full a-line skirts with whimsical prints, the collection is one of my favourites this seasont. The smell, taste and colour of authentic Italian food makes me miss Italy, but this dress brings back all of those savoury memories…

This look was inspired by the Spring/Summer 2012 runway of Dolce & Gabbana. I loved their whimsical collection and their nod to Italian cuisine. Fresh off the racks of Primark in Rotterdam, my dress was €20 well spent. To emulate the runway look, I wore a black belt (included with the dress!) black pumps from Zara and large rose earrings from H&M.

While my dress is a worthy copy, the red hot chilli pepper dress has become very popular,  and has been featured in numerous editorials and magazine covers.

Including Elle France, featuring Victoria’s Secret Angel, Behati Prinsloo wearing the Dolce & Gabbana dress on the glossy cover.

Even celebs are digging the fun print. Rock Royalty Pixie Geldof (left) and singer Paloma Faith have been pictured wearing the dress. Faith should have let the fun print speak for itself, the black embellished cardigan distracts from the print and the ankle straps on her shoes cut off her legs. I love the way Pixie kept things simple and wore black pumps and a few pieces of jewellery for accessories.

I decided to follow her lead and just wear these statement earrings and black pumps with the bargain basement frock.

A print like this doesn’t need much help. I actually am so impressed with the shape and tailoring of this dress. I like the cutouts at the shoulders and the flare at the waist, emulating Dolce & Gabbana’s refined silhouette of the season.

Anyone can be as hot as a chili pepper in a festive food frock. Buon Appetito!
