There are so many beautiful wineries in Prince Edward County, located a mere 1.5-2 hour drive from Toronto. I’ve had the chance to visit three times so far, and I’m sharing the best wineries in Prince Edward County. I’m also sharing a map at the end of this post so you can route out your winery tour of Prince Edward County by bike or designated driver.
I also plan on updating this post as I visit PEC again, so make sure to check back on this post, or leave a comment below with your favourite PEC wineries!
1. Closson Chasse Vineyards
You can’t miss this iconic purple barn on Closson Road in Hillier. Closson Chasse is one of my favourite Prince Edward County wineries because it offers exceptional wine, in a gorgeous garden and setting. This place is a must-visit for both the garden scenery and the wonderful wines. It’s also close to many other wineries in PEC. I’ve visited Closson Chasse (first in August 2020 and again in July 2021) during Covid-19 restrictions and was seated outside, and enjoyed tasting flights which cost $15 for three selections off their main list.
Wine you can’t miss: Loyalist Chardonnay & Churchside Pinot Noir
Address: 629 Closson Rd, Hillier, ON K0K 2J0
2. Redtail Winery
Redtail Winery is a newer winery in the area, in that in 2018 a new owner planned to give it a fresh start, planting vines from the Niagara Region and California in 2020. This winery’s vibe is very chill, calm and you can enjoy a glass of wine or tasting flight on a picnic bench under their covered roof (which was great on a rainy day).
Wine you can’t miss: 2018 Pinot Noir, 2018 Chardonnay and try one of their unique Alt-wines.
Address: 422 Partridge Hollow Rd, Consecon, ON K0K 1T0
3. Trail Estate Winery
Mackenzie Brisbois is the winemaker and vineyard manager at Trail Estate Winery, which has become known for their orange wines, where skins are left in contact with the wine, giving it a distinctive colour. This winery in Prince Edward County would be perfect for parents with kids, as they have hay bales and a cute sand castle pit set up with toys to keep little ones occupied.
Wine you can’t miss: 2017 Foxcroft Chardonnay (pictured above), one of their orange wines (I note that availability may change as when we visited, they were out!).
Address: 416 Benway Rd, Hillier, ON K0K 2J0
4. Hinterland Wine Company
If you like sparkling wine and chickens, don’t miss Hinterland Wine Company! This winery requires bookings for wine tastings, but when we visited in August 2020, we were able to walk up and enjoy a sparkling wine cocktail and enjoy a mini picnic we brought from home. Guests can still walk up to their backyard area as well if there’s space. Hinterland Wine Company also has adorable chickens and geese in a coop, which were fun to watch while enjoying a cocktail.
Wine you can’t miss: Peach Bellini Cocktail & Rosé 2016 Method Traditional
Address: 1258 Closson Rd, Hillier, ON K0K 2J0
5. Waupoos Estates Winery
Waupoos Estates Winery easily has the best view of the lake in Prince Edward County. We visited Waupoos last summer, and you’re free to roam the grounds with your wine glass and take pictures in the vines.
Wine you can’t miss: Honeysuckle 2019 & Red Rabbit 2016
Address: 3016 County Rd 8, Picton, ON K0K 2T0
6. Loch Mor Cider Company
While not a winery, Loch Mor Cider Company is a must-visit in PEC. This cider company was started by Sara and Gary, who wanted to create dry ciders reminiscent of the UK, and they did exactly that! One of my favourite things to do while visiting London is sampling all the incredible ciders, and I truly miss how most Canadian ciders are overly sweet. Dry ciders have tannins (just like wines), and their ciders are fermented slowly in cooler temperatures. During prohibition era in Ontario, all the dry, cider-style apple trees were ripped out, but Loch Mor Cider Company is planting more and more trees to produce their unique European-style ciders, and I love to keep my fridge stocked with their options!
Cider you can’t miss: Hopped Dry Cider, Savvy Pomme Sparkling Cider
Address: 890 Danforth Rd, Hillier, ON K0K 2J0

Prince Edward County Winery Tours
There are dozens of companies offering winery tours in PEC. If I would do a group tour, which is a perfect bachelorette party idea, I would definitely choose to do a biking tour around Hillier, which has most of my favourite Prince Edward County wineries listed above!
I hope you enjoyed this roundup of the best Prince Edward County wineries. It’s such an easy day trip from Toronto and a great way to learn more about this unique region.
