Make Up For Ever : Smoky Extravagant Review

A few weeks ago, I was sent Make Up For Ever’s latest mascara, Smoky Extravagant to review. I test drove it for a couple weeks on my trip to Europe and wanted to share what I thought on the new tube.

The brush:

The mascara claims to give you 4D volume, and a precise application. It’s a two-in-one brush, with a round base for volume, and a precision tip to separate smaller lashes. Because of this conical brush design, I think that the mascara works amazingly on your lower lashes. In one swipe, all of my lower lashes were lightly coated and separated, creating a dramatic, doll-like look. The brush worked well on upper lashes as well, especially for getting to the tiny inner and outer lashes, however I found it harder to work on my left eye, and often had to get rid of clumps. The conical shape is very thick and takes a bit of time to get used to.

The formula:

It’s not waterproof, but it’s definitely sweat-proof. I wore this mascara in 30+ temperatures, all day long while I was sight-seeing in Prague and it didn’t smudge or budge. I’m not a fan of waterproof mascaras, because they are too heavy and impossible to take off, so this is a nice balance. My only complaint is that sometimes the formula can go on too heavy and create spider lashes, so a light hand is best.

The packaging:

I like the simple, black and white tube. There are no gimmicks here, but I kind of like that!

Above, I applied a light amount of mascara to my lashes. You can see that there is a lot of length and volume, but you don’t have each lash individually defined.

I think this is a great mascara for a medium price-point of $24. It does a great job of giving your lashes a lot of dramatic length and volume, which is perfect for a smokey eye or night out. I like to wear this mascara with no eyeliner for a doll look, or with a classic black cat eye. I think this mascara would be great for people with tinier lashes looking to get the falsies look. It’s a bit much for everyday wear for me, but will be my go-to for night looks. The mascara is now available at Sephora or online here.
