It took five years, 25 unique stages and 30 people to handcraft each brush, but Make Up For Ever’s new Artisan Brush Collection is here. With 76 brushes, the line is geared towards makeup artists and enthusiasts. I was sent a couple brushes from the new collection to review, so check out the video below.
The brushes are made of synthetic hairs that were developed to mimic natural fibres. Dany Sanz, the creative and artistic director for Make Up For Ever tested fibres that would be as soft and silky as natural hair. Sanz was a painter, and the brushes honestly feel like paintbrushes. With warm wooden handles and immaculate construction, these brushes stand out amongst their plastic counterparts. Sanz consulted with Raphael, a renowned brush manufacturer in Mauritius, to create a make up brush line with a high level of craftsmanship.
I was sent to review #124, a Kabuki face brush. The handle is metal and the bristles themselves are straight and wavy. The straight hairs allow for precise application, while wavy hairs give a more diffused application. This kabuki combines both types of hair, giving a soft, diffused glow. I use it with a pressed mineral foundation (pur Minerals to be exact) and I loved that with this brush, I could use it on certain areas like my t-zone and not have to put it all over since the powder was lightly diffused all over my face. If I press harder with it, or pick up more product, I can also get more coverage around my nose and chin as well. This is by far my favourite kabuki brush I’ve ever used, and it will accompany me wherever I go now!
The second brush I was sent was #228, a straight eyeshadow brush. First off, I love the wooden handle. It feels like I’m in art class all over again, and I found it very natural and warm to hold. The brush isn’t too light or heavy and I like the simple rustic design. The brush is very straight and will apply product exactly where you want it. It’s not the best for any blending, but I find it great for outlining my eyes with eyeshadow (precise but a little bit diffused) and on my eyebrows! I like to use a nude eyeshadow to amp up my brows, and this brush is extremely precise when doing that.
Overall, I loved how well constructed these brushes are. I haven’t had the chance to see the complete line, but I am in love with the kabuki brush and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a new brush!
