A couple weeks ago, I had the chance to preview GUESS’ Spring/Summer 2014 collection. Inspired by easygoing festival attire with touches of vintage crochet lace, the summer collection is perfect for a getaway or summer in the city.
A couple trends stood out, including crochet lace panels and linen that was dyed to look like denim. The crochet is a feminine, ecclectic detail and I love how it was used as a see through panel in that maxi skirt and flared pants. Lace adorned the backs of dresses, and a sweater had a whole back panel made of soft lace in a contemporary floral rose pattern.
I also love how GUESS incorporated linen into its summer collection. Linen is a comfortable fabric that is easy to care for and extremely lightweight and breathable in hot weather. I love denim too, but find it can be too heavy and constricting. The linen romper and the safari jacket are the perfect medium, that gives you the look of classic denim while being in a soft comfortable fabric.
The collection also drew on Moroccan influences, including a silkscreened mandala pattern on this shirt, and breezy crocheted pieces.
Overalls were also a part of Guess’ Summer 2014 collection, and I kind of like the vintage camo version. Paired with a breezy white cotton top or neon tank top, it’s a fun look for a festival or camping trip.
Those festival influences sneaked their way into the accessories, as bags and jewelry were adorned with tassles and beadwork.
I loved GUESS’ summer shoe line, complete with comfy leather gladiators and sexy strappy black stilettos. Touches of gold and pops of turquoise colour weave their way through the accessory line.
It was about -25 outside that day, and the collection definitely had me dreaming of summer… especially the easter egg coloured sweet table! Check out a video below to get a better look of some of the pieces in the GUESS Summer 2014 collection.
