One of the most powerful tools to deal with stress is exercise. I wrote in my last post about how when I was stressed out during first semester, I put off dancing and yoga and spent all my time on work. Whether you’re trying to break up with stress, or shake another bad habit, exercise is a great positive distraction.
Exercise is also a great way to challenge yourself and set positive goals. I think a lot of our goals today are too focused on the end result. Instead of focusing on an outcome or number, making small steps to improve on a bad habit might be a better way to stay on track.
Yoga is one of my favourite activities, and along with ballet, I try to carve out at least an hour every Sunday to practice. Even when I’m pressured by deadlines or feeling tired, I force myself to slow down for an hour and breathe.
I’m so excited to share that there will be a free yoga class at the University of Ottawa this week, which is great timing – considering the end of the semester and exams are near! We all tend to get a little caught up in studying and final papers, but it’s important to have some me-time to avoid burn-outs both mentally and physically.
Come de-stress with myself and other yogis (beginners welcome!) this Thursday. Check out the full event details below:
