Soia & Kyo Spring 2013

Sloshing through puddles in rainboots and a nylon trench, or bundling up in a leather coat and scarf. Springtime weather is unpredictable and often, our clothing is what protects us from the elements. But why can’t rain gear be fashionable? Soia & Kyo’s Spring 2013 collection blurred the lines of style and function with their pretty pastel collection of outerwear.

Dusty rose, mint, beige and pops of fuschia dominated this collection. I loved the pastel-coloured raincoats and gabardine trenches. They are simple and functional, but I love the soft colours that are perfect for ushering in springtime.

The men’s collection was more classic, and featured classic trenches in a gabardine-like material with large buttons. There was also a green jacket with contrasting black sleeves that reminded me of Mackage’s collection. And no wonder, the designer of Soia & Kyo, Ilan Elfassy’s brother is Mackage co-creator, Eran Elfassy. I could easily call Soia & Kyo Mackage’s “little brother” brand, a more affordable, youthful version of its big brother, Mackage. While the show felt like a bit of a repeat of Wednesday’s Mackage show, I think both lines really complimented each other, and will definitely be popular for their colourful take on the leather jacket.

Amidst a sea of easter-egg hued jackets, the soft shades of mink and beige were also beautiful. I love the zippers and motorcycle cuts of these bombers.

I loved the rich oak colour of this jacket.

But nothing could beat this raspberry-coloured suede bomber which closed the show. I love the clean lines, because you really focus on the sumptuous suede and the punchy colour! I would love to wear this, and any of the dusty rose trench coats in the springtime.

The collection was youthful, expertly styled and very chic. Any piece from the collection would add colour to a drab, rainy April day.
