Alice in Wonderland couples Halloween Costume

Alice in Wonderland couples Halloween costume: this post shares a DIY guide on how to create an awesome Mad Hatter and Queen of Hearts Halloween costume. Perfect for a Wonderland themed party or Halloween.

Happy Halloween! This year, I’m sharing our Alice in Wonderland couples Halloween costume, adding to over 8 years of intense couples costumes. I’ve always wanted to dress up as Alice, but this year, I opted for an easy DIY Queen of Hearts Costume, and Daniel got to be the Mad Hatter. While Daniel’s Mad Hatter costume was inspired by the Disney Tim Burton live action, my Queen of Hearts costume was inspired by the Disney animated classic. Keep reading to see how we made this DIY Alice in Wonderland couples Halloween Costume

While the Mad Hatter and Alice are a more classic couples costume, I personally LOVED being the Queen of Hearts. This costume was super easy for me to make, cost $1.25, and got compliments all night long! I think it’s fun having opposing characters as a couples costume. The Mad Hatter is an eccentric, loud and fun-loving character, while the Queen of Hearts is serious, stern and regal. It’s a fun game of opposites and a more unique Alice in Wonderland couples Halloween Costume.

Whether you DIY these costumes yourself, or purchase them from a store, I think it’s a great pairing. We even posed with our cat, Mousse, as the Cheshire cat!

Daniel’s DIY Mad Hatter Costume seems elaborate, but it’s pretty simple. He paired an old leather coat over a pinstripe vest and pants (mismatched on purpose), wore a white button up and a silk scarf tied in a bow. We purchased a Mad Hatter wig, because Daniel’s hair is short, but feel free to wear your natural locks!

The real DIY came in on the Mad Hatter hat. Last year, Daniel dressed up as Inspector Gadget for Halloween, and made a DIY hat and yet again, pulled off another amazing piece of headwear. I think he should be a milliner, no? To make this hat, he used a combination of cardboard, papier maché and coated the piece in drapery fabric. The finishing touch was the “In this Style” ticket made of burnt, aged paper.

To bring this costume to the next level, I wished I did Daniel’s makeup to match Johnny Depp’s in the movie, but we spent the night dancing away, so I’m glad I didn’t!

My Queen of Hearts costume was even easier. I wore a red neoprene dress, red tights, red suede booties and a gold tiara. To make my card collar, I stapled cards together in a U-shape and then stapled the entire piece together. It took only 30 minutes to make and cost $1.25 for the playing cards.

For my makeup, I used Make Up For Ever Waterproof Creme Shadow in the shade, pastel blue and put it all over my lids. For my crease, I used Make Up For Ever Aqua Matic Eye Shadow in the shade, Iridescent Turquoise. For my brows, I used the Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Stingray as a brow pencil. For lips, I used Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick in Bawse to create a heart shape on my lips with a lip brush.  I also used a red eyeshadow to contour my face instead of bronzer or blush. This makeup lasted all night and definitely added to my costume!

I hope you enjoyed our Halloween recap, and are inspired to create your own Alice in Wonderland couples Halloween costume! Happy Halloween!
