So this weekend is Thanksgiving long weekend in Canada. While I plan to escape the city and breathe in some fresh fall air at the cottage, there are some amazing sales happening around the GTA that I have to share with you! So if you find you ate too much turkey and stuffing this weekend and can’t fit into your pants anymore, head to one of these sales.
First, Petite Feet is holding another one of their semi-annual sales.
This poster pretty much sums up everything you need to know. While this sale IS better for those with size 5-6 (there are literally thousands of shoes), there were some decent offerings for us duck feet. I will be honest and say that the selection isn’t very high-end, they mostly carry the brands from Town Shoes or Capezio, so don’t expect to find any Manolos or Jeffrey Campbells there. My biggest tip is to join their VIP club (I think you can still do that for today). Being VIP grants you early access to the sale, as they hold VIP days the Thursday before the sale opens to the public on Friday. Being early is the key to scoring good merch, though I got very lucky at their easter sale when I snagged a pair of Sam Edelman Lorissas in fuschia!
I picked them up for only $99, when they retailed a couple months later at Town Shoes for over $200! My little trick is to be friendly and nice to the staff, and they will alert you when they bring out the good stuff. If you hear an announcement on the PA that they are bringing out a certain shoe (like the Lorissa), head for the premiere section and wait patiently by your shoe size’s table. A helpful staff member will bring out the shoe (usually only one or two pairs in each size), so if you see them with the coveted shoe, ask the staff member what size they’re carrying (instead of waiting for it to appear on the table). Just ask, and you’ll receive.
Another warehouse sale happening this weekend at the Direct Energy centre. American Apparel is having a weekend-long warehouse sale at up to 80% off. They did this a couple years ago, but had massive line-ups where hipsters and high-schoolers waited outside in the cold for colourful cotton hoodies. I think this year will be different because the space is so much bigger, and American Apparel is no longer at the height of its popularity as it was in 2009. I hope to stock up on staples like hosiery, tees and some leotards for ballet. Very few companies still make cotton leotards, and I like that cotton can breathe and doesn’t trap sweat to the body. I always thought American Apparel’s line of trendy dancewear somewhat fills the void of Lululemon’s gorgeous line of leotards that ceased to exist a few years ago. I’m not expecting much of this sale, but it’s worth checking out on Friday before I go up north.
And last, but certainly not least, TopShop and TopMan open today at Yorkdale! Yesterday around the Ryerson campus, a few guys in a truck were handing out mystery giftcards. I managed to get a couple, so if you were lucky enough to get one, you can use it this weekend from October 5-9 only. Another sweet perk? Students get 10% off everyday! The store opens today and I absolutely can’t wait to check it out!
This weekend, TopShop will be giving out exclusive totes as a gift with purchase, but hurry! They only have 200 per day.
Judging by the photo above taken at the opening last night, there are already a couple pieces I’m coveting! Hopefully one of my mystery cards is a lucky $500 winner!
