A few weeks ago, I attended a media event to get a sneak peek at the Olsen Fashion Fall 2014 collection. The German fashion brand’s fall and winter collections were inspired by nature and art, as well as urban architecture. Here are some of my favourite pieces from the collection.
Graphic World was probably my favourite theme of the Olsen Europe Fall 2014 collection, inspired by animal print and graphic black and white. The zebra print harem pants were my favourites from the collection, and they could easily be worn to work with a plain black silk shirt or out at night with a fun flouncy crop top. The zebra print is more refined and has a touch of beige in it to add depth, while the satin fabric has a lightweight but opaque feel that makes them more formal.
Fantasy City was another highlight in the collection. I love architectural print dresses (like this one here), and the dresses had printed cityscapes that blended into subtle floral prints and colours like indigo and deep purple. I wish I had my camera on hand to share some of these dresses!
Wild Side brings the collection back to the animal prints, with leopard faux fur (a huge trend for this fall season, but really when is it not stylish?), faux leather accents, an elegant drapey chiffon leopard print top and my fave, a black on black sequin sweatshirt. That sweatshirt would look amazing with either a pair of ripped jeans or the sexy faux leather pencil skirt!
I loved the New Denim collection’s cozy knits (the oversized cardigans are perfect for fall), and I liked the cosmic theme with the galaxy print dress (the knit fabric was incredibly soft!) and the star printed pants.
The Pure Nature theme was inspired by Arctic nature and features snowflakes, penguins and an icy colour palette. There are some textured knits and corduroy pants, which are great winter-ready options.
Lastly, the Winter Garden collection didn’t exactly evoke the usual “floral” or pastel colour palette I’d expect. Instead, the collection features bold prints including the on-trend window pane check. I loved that printed scarf, and Olsen is expanding their accessories with plenty of scarves, handbags and jewelry. (You can check out how I styled one of their necklaces here).
It was great getting a sneak peek at the Olsen Fashion Fall 2014 collection, I really enjoyed how these pieces could be worn by any woman of any age, and were very functional and versatile. The pieces would work great for our cold climate. I also like how the collections were cohesive and offered many great layering choices. I can’t think about sweaters and scarves just yet, but that “CHIC” sweatshirt and cozy blanket cardigan have my name on it!
