Every young woman has a sequin item, saved at the back of her closet for special occasions. She can wear it to a Lady Gaga concert, her birthday, and the most “sequin holiday” of all, New Year’s Eve. On vacation, I wore a pair of sequin shorts with a pretty blouse for a dazzling going out look.
I’m wearing sequin shorts from Zara (similar here), cobalt blue silk blouse by LAMB, Urban Outfitters Emma Sunglasses, Vince Camuto suede sandals, Rebecca Minkoff Mini Quilted Affair bag and jewelry c/o Pandora.

The Pandora winter collection works perfectly for New Year’s Eve. One of the collection’s strongest motifs were stars and rich, midnight blues. I’m wearing the cosmic stars ring and the midnight star blue crystal ring with a bangle featuring the follow the stars charm and wishing star charm. I love layering their rings for a unique look, as well as pairing their bracelets with a few of my other favourite pieces.
While this outfit works great in the tropics, it can be winter ready with a pair of sheer black tights underneath the shorts, and a chic faux fur coat layered on top of the blouse. I love that with these sequin shorts, you can dance the night away and don’t have to fuss about a dress! I also find that sequin shorts (or a cute sequin skirt) are the perfect amount of sparkle, without going too overboard. If you’re still nervous about donning a sequin piece, keep it basic by pairing the sequins with a solid top (like I did here), or neutral black or white.
I hope these sequin style tips will help you dance away 2014 and ring in 2015 in style! Happy New Year!
