The past few days at above zero make it feel like spring is on its way. I’m gearing up for WMCFW Fall 2014, but I’m already starting to go through my wardrobe in anticipation of spring. From classic trenches to flirty flats, spring is my favourite season because as Canadians, we finally get to ditch the heavy layers and boots. Here are some top spring trends and outfit ideas brought to you by Joe Fresh‘s new Spring 2014 collection.
This first look is a subtle take on the pattern mixing trend. A classic trenchcoat is a must-have in rainy weather, and this one is moderately priced at $99. The slight cocoon shape is elegant and works for the office with a dress, or on the weekends with jeans and a tee. I love the painted on details, which is an amazing trompe l’oeil effect. I paired it with a nautical striped dress, $39, which features pockets and a girly ruffled yoke. Last but not least, I added a neutral pair of nude polka-dot slipper flats, $49 which are comfortable and cutesy at the same time.
The second look was inspired by menswear. This season, the skinny jean has been replaced with relaxed flared and boyfriend jeans. I paired an elegant black and white taped denim jacket, $69, with a pair of distressed medium wash boyfriend jeans, $59, with a pair of masculine patent loafers, $59. This season, a lot of footwear has been drawing inspiration from men’s classics. Look for skater sneakers and loafers in eye-popping hues and feminine twists. I love the white tassle bit and bright white sole of this loafer, which contrasts perfectly with the glossy black leather.
One trend that’s everywhere this season is daisy print. From maxi skirts to blazers, this free-sprited motif will inject a breath of fresh air into your spring wardrobe. I love the mint and black colour of this daisy print sweater, a steal for only $29. I paired it with another super trendy piece, the scalloped hem skirt, $39. Silver footwear is making a comeback this fall, but why not be ahead of the trend machine with these metallic pointy-toe flats? For $39, they are perfect for daytime with a girly skirt or skinny jeans, and can go into the night with an LBD so you can dance the night away without any foot pain.
The last outfit was inspired by the South of France. I paired a cute white blouse, $39, with a stunning printed skirt, $39, that reminds me of Moroccan tile. Pattern mixing is a huge trend, and while I like to let eye-catching prints stand alone, this skirt would also look great with a striped boatneck t-shirt. To pull the look together, a classic pair of French ballerinas, $39, in a sexy snakeskin are a comfortable go-to shoe.
