I had an Elle Woods moment this weekend. I can’t believe it, but I’m the proud owner of a hot pink suit. This gorgeous set is c/o Talbots and it combines a bright shade of magenta with a clean, modern cut.

This Talbots blazer is part of their 70th Anniversary Collection. The brand pulled 7 different pieces from 7 different decades of modern, classic style. For the 1980s, they brought back the power suit in an eye-catching colour in the Exclusive Anniversary Collection Blazer. The 1980s power suit was iconic, and I love how this one reimagines the silhouette with a more relaxed cut. Colored suits were definitely more popular back then, and I love how this one is unapologetically bold. I’m obsessed with the thick fabric and gold button details. It’s so preppy and lovely.

I paired the Anniversary Collection blazer with the Hampshire Ankle Pants to create my hot pink suit. I love these pants with their straight cut and modern cropped length. I’d love to wear both pieces separately too, to create ample looks for the office and nights out. I pulled the look together with my Gucci Marmont belt for a touch of glam, that also complimented the blazer’s gold buttons.

These suede Erica Back-Bow pumps from Talbots are so beautiful. I love how they took a staple piece and transformed them with such a gorgeous detail. Business in the front, party in the back!

This top is a simple 3/4 tee, and is perfect for layering under suits and cardigans. I like that it adds a bit of interest to this hot pink suit without competing. Sometimes I struggle with a collared shirt (I’ve documented the shirt & skirt twisting phenomena here), so an elevated tee is a nice alternative to a dress shirt. It’s also a great option for ladies who don’t fit into button-up blouses, or have difficulty, like me, finding one with the right sleeve length to bust-size ratio.

When I’m feeling daring, or really want to make an impression, this hot pink suit from Talbots will be my go-to. I think in corporate settings, too many women are afraid to express their personality. When I’m rocking a fabulous outfit, I feel more confident and more like myself…

How to wear a colored suit

  • Let the colour do the job. Keep things simple when it comes to accessories, including jewelry.
  • Don’t mix other colours. Go with neutrals (black, white, beige) for accessories and layers.
  • Go with a nude lip! I tried this look with a deep pink lipstick and it was clownish. A nude or light pink lip lets the colored suit stand out.
  • Nix the bold eyeshadow. That’s one way to steer this look away from the eighties!
  • Look for sleek, modern cuts and nice tailoring. Don’t let extra details overpower the impact of the colour itself!
