Fashion your seatbelts…

From September 5 to 12, New York comes to life. Fashion’s elite fills the streets outside Lincoln Centre donning fur, high heels and bright handbags. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week brings together some of the best design talent to present their Spring 2014 collections. I’m excited to say I’ll be in New York for a couple days during fashion week, but am entering Lookbook’s NYFW Dream Contest!

A year ago, I attended Amsterdam Fashion Week, which was an amazing experience. It was my second day in Holland (I lived there for six months), and I was sucked into another world! New York is next on my list, and I can’t wait to experience fashion on a grand scale. I just graduated from journalism school in June, and I’ve been interning as a videographer for Elle Canada all summer long… I feel that attending the shows in New York will be my next step for my career, so that I can meet new people in this industry and elevate my blog to new heights.

This look was inspired by fashion week’s streetstyle all-stars. A little black dress is a quintessential wardrobe piece, and makes up the base of my outfit. I added graphic black and white sunglasses (piggy-backing on summer’s hottest trend), a jeweled cuff and a faux fur mint stole for a touch of drama. At fashion week, it’s all about expressing your own style and wearing eye-catching details to attract the camera’s lens.

From reporting about emerging designers in Rome and Toronto to documenting my style through my travels, I’m almost embarassed to say that I’ve never been to the Big Apple! Winning this contest would be a complete dream-come-true, and I can’t wait to dig my heels into the New York sidewalk.
