The one trend this season that is nearly impossible to wear are overalls. I love the look of the denim version, but I often find them too childish. It’s easy to end up looking like a toddler in Osh Kosh B’Gosh, but I thought I would give the trend a try. I picked up a pair of black and white polka-dot overalls and paired them with a crop top and cutesy accessories for a flirty, festival-ready summer look.
I’m wearing polka-dot overalls from H&M (similar here), white eyelet crop top from Forever 21, black Valentino Rockstud look-a-like flats by Chinese laundry via Winners (splurge, save), bulldog puppy bag c/o Persunmall, Pressly watch by Michael Kors and Vintage Allure pendant c/o Pandora.
I think the key to pulling off overalls this summer is to pick up a pair with details that fit in with your regular style. I rarely (if ever), wear light denim. That is why I was drawn to this pair in polka-dots! If you love floral print dresses, overalls in a denim floral print or soft cotton will match your style much better. I also think it’s a good idea to show a little skin. I like the idea of layering overalls over a crop top or bustier bra. Wearing a striped t-shirt underneath would make the look scream elementary school circa 1996.
If you’re still weary about the overalls trend, you can also wear them as denim shorts, and let the flap hang down. Or you can get a overalls dress with the front flap if shorts aren’t your thing. It’s not an appropriate look for everyone, but for the cottage, campfire or concert, I think it’s a comfortable and affordable trend to try out!
