Today, fashion designer Anna Sui came to Toronto at the Eaton Centre location of Sears to promote her cosmetics line.
I have always admired Anna Sui as a designer. Her bohemian rock and roll aesthetic is glamorous and poignant with every season. But this feminine and eclectic style changes subtly with each collection, showcasing a new inspiration or theme. I asked Sui what inspires her as a designer and she replied, “I think I have a great job, because I can use everything that I’m into in my work. It’s music, it’s movies, you can just see visiting a museum, or seeing a garden, even a flower.”
It was a great experience meeting her, and talking to her about fashion. I love her book, Anna Sui, which outlines all of her collections and highlights her 20-year career in the fashion industry.
I brought it along with me, and she signed it.
While waiting in line, I talked to other fans of Sui and people involved with the event. Some definitely dressed for the occasion.
Lexi wasn’t wearing Anna Sui, but I loved her mix of bright colours and that vintage printed dress had a lot of personality. Her chartreuse suede flats are gorgeous, and I would love to find shoes in such a juicy colour for next summer.
Her skirt was by Anna Sui, and I loved the way it added a girly touch to a refined black look.
Her jewellery and nail art was stunning too. While the jewellery is a costume piece, her nail polish is by Anna Sui.
Decked out in Anna Sui’s Fall/Winter 2011 collection from head to toe.
These boots are so stunning. The butterfly buckle around the vamp is so beautiful, and I love the shiny patent with a contrasting white stitching.
I wore a vintage peplum waist dress, Anna Sui fishnet tights (which are a must-have in your hosiery drawer), my new black leather riding boots and my Amliya owl bag (not shown).
I fell in love with this pair of boots at Winners. I’ve always been a fan of riding boots, because they are clean, elegant and have no unsightly zippers, but this pair is my new favourite. The laser-cut lace pattern at the top adds that feminine edge to a masculine silhouette.
At the event, makeup artists were giving free makeovers on customers. It was fun to experiment with different products from the Anna Sui line. Sui stopped with the make up artists for a photo opp.
I picked up a few new additions to my makeup collection, including the new and coveted eyebrow kit that comes in an adorable bow compact, which seemed to be flying off the shelves at the event today.
Sui is pictured with some of the people who made the day happen.
She was so kind and sweet to her fans and colleagues, she even told one girl (dressed in one of her designs) “That is my favourite dress.” It was amazing meeting a visionary in the fashion and cosmetics industry, and I hope to see a future collection walk down the runway sometime.
