Birkenstocks are the top shoe trend for Summer 2014. While I’m not a huge fan of the classic two-strap Arizona or the god-awful Boston leather or felt clogs, I do love the simple and sleek design of the Birkenstock Gizeh. I have a couple pairs in silver and my favourite colour, mint, and I wanted to share a guide on how to wear Birkenstock Gizeh sandals.
How to wear Birkenstock Gizeh sandals: Shorts
Denim shorts, a crisp silk shirt in a summer print pair perfectly with the Birkenstock Gizeh. The shorts are super casual to match the sandals, but the elegant shirt elevates the look. It’s a nice juxtaposition, especially when paired with a chic handbag and cool sunglasses.

How to wear Birkenstock Gizeh sandals: Kimono
This look is a more casual version of the one above. I paired the Birkenstocks with jean shorts once again, but kept things more casual with a plain white tee. I layered a pretty printed kimono to elevate this simple cut-off and tee look. I could have easily worn this outfit with sneakers or flip flops, but the Birkenstock sandals were a more practical and cooler alternative while sight-seeing in Athens.

How to wear Birkenstock Gizeh sandals: Romper
While wearing a dress with Birkenstock Gizeh sandals is a bit daunting, I think rompers are a cute and practical alternative. I’m wearing a pretty printed romper, which is light when it gets really hot and humid in the city.

How to wear Birkenstock Gizeh sandals: Sundress
The secret to wearing a dress with Birkenstock sandals is to keep things simple. This whole outfit has a cool colour palette and I accessorized with a dainty silver necklace to incorporate the silver of the sandals. This look is casual, and perfect for a weekend by the dock.

How to wear Birkenstock Gizeh sandals: Maxi Dress
You might think wearing Birkenstock sandals with a maxi dress or skirt is a bit too hippy-dippy, but if you stick to solid pieces and elegant accessories you can pull it off! I took on the pastels trend with a coral maxi dress, lilac tote and mint Birkenstock Gizeh sandals for a colourful summer look. This is a great outfit for travel, because you can wear the jersey maxi dress all day with comfy Birks sandals, then swap them out for a pair of heeled sandals for nighttime.

Whether you wear your Birkenstocks with a dress or casual shorts is up to you, but I’m finding that the classic (and trendy) style of these German sandals can go with a lot of looks! If you’re still hesitant, I suggest getting a metallic pair of Birkenstocks (I’m in love with these copper metallic Birkenstock Arizona sandals) or a pair in your favourite colour (how cute are these pink Birkenstock Madrid slides?) I bought my Birkenstock sandals in Berlin as a souvenir, but they’re definitely worth investing in if you like to walk, are looking for travel shoes or have foot problems.
