Victoria Day Bike Ride

Yesterday, I enjoyed the statutory holiday by going for a bike ride. I wanted to catch fireworks at Ashbridge’s Bay, but glad I didn’t as a thunderstorm rolled into the city right as the fireworks would have started. I was glad I went on a bike ride with my boyfriend, as we rolled by, we were treated to the sweet smell of crab trees blossoming. I decided to stop here to take a photo, if only the camera could have captured the way petals fell down and danced in the wind.

While I used to bike in a miniskirt and heels all the time when I lived in Holland, I definitely couldn’t get away with that here. Shorts or pants are a must and with the steamy temperatures yesterday, I decided to pull together a look inspired by music festivals. I’m wearing comfy cotton snakeskin print shorts, a blue fringe top, both from H&M, pink and silver leather Sperry top-siders, and a purple ombre fedora from Target.

To match my gradmother’s vintage bicycle, I also wore her vintage white sunglasses, paired with new random jewelry pieces, like an elephant and quartz bullet pendant.

I’m currently in the process of revitalizing my grannie’s bike. A true omafiets! I bought hot pink handles on eBay, added a wicker basket, and I’m currently searching for a new pink seat.

Biking on a single gear brings back childhood memories… but I still have to get used to the back pedal… I’m terrified of going too fast, especially with my boyfriend’s road bike zipping circles around me.

This cycle was definitely the perfect way to spend the afternoon. The frame was light enough that I might even consider bringing it down to the beach one day.
