Growing up, I was obsessed with the movie Grease. I wanted a poodle skirt desperately, and still wear white frilly socks with saddle shoes. This look was inspired by a vintage car near my house, and when I found this teal leather jacket, I was immediately inspired to put together this outfit.
I’m wearing a leather varsity jacket from Winners, a floral dress with petticoat from Urban Planet, tights from H&M and mary jane shoes from Betsey Johnson.
To complete the look, I wore my hair in a high pony and victory roll, to emulate some of the hairstyles of the period. To achieve the look, simply take a 2″ chunk of hair and carefully roll it around your index finger, being careful to keep the edges neat. Once you roll it to the top of your head, secure with bobby pins at the base of the roll. Set with some strong hold hairspray and whisk any stray baby hairs into the roll shape. This method only works if you have straight hair (so straighten a section) and for lengths around shoulder length. If your hair is shorter, section a thicker chunk.
While the varsity style of this leather jacket isn’t exactly me, I fell in love with the gorgeous turquoise colour. Varsity jackets continue to be a big trend on the streets, and I was surprised how easy it was to pair with a tee and jeans, or a floral dress like this.
I wanted to wear little white socks, but decided against it, and wore more elegant dotted tights. These mary janes from Betsey Johnson are one of my favourite pairs of shoes, and even have a hot pink sole.
While the vintage Chrysler behind me will likely never ride again, it was the perfect inspiration and backdrop for this outfit I’ve had in mind for years.
