Travel Guide to Casa Battlo

Travel Guide to Casa Battlo

On our first full day in Barcelona, we visited Casa Battlo. Casa Battlo is located on Passeig de Gracia, in the heart of Barcelona. One of Gaudi’s apartments, this museum is open to tourists, but also houses some offices and some people still live there! We walked from our hotel in El Born to the apartment, and it was a nice 15-20 minute walk with lots of sights along the way.

You can purchase tickets at the door, but expect to wait in line. We purchased regular tickets online, and went right in during our time slot. Don’t bother paying extra for wait free access… buying a ticket online ahead of time is enough to get you in right away!

Once inside, you get a video audio guide that had some VR capabilities. It showed videos that illustrated how Gaudi’s Casa Battlo came to life.

I really enjoyed the interior of the apartments, including the beautiful stained glass windows, and the ombre tile work in the interior courtyard. I love how the entire Casa Battlo building was inspired by the sea, with so many elements contributing. There were turtleshell shaped windows, conch swirls on the ceiling, sea glass windows, and a ceiling that looked like the ribcage of a whale.

I would highly recommend stopping to take a picture on one of the balconies. It was only 12 euros and a great souvenir of your visit. I love that the photo is taken on an actual balcony too!

For my visit to Casa Battlo, I wore a striped maxi dress from Winners (similar striped maxi dress here), a pair of espadrilles from Nine West,  sunglasses by Dolce & Gabbana, and a blue leather bag from London (similar blue bag here).

It was crazy how my colourful outfit fit in with the mosaics on the roof and building of Casa Battlo. To see these elements in person, up close is incredible. I would also definitely recommend wearing flats to this excursion, because you need to walk up and down a lot of stairs. Don’t miss out on the rooftop, there were incredible views and I enjoyed seeing the minimalistic yet ingenious attics and cooling designs of this apartment building.

It’s crazy to think this apartment building was once super simple, and was completely transformed with Gaudi’s touch.
