Prom Style:101

For the high school bubble, it’s that time of year again. When BCBG gets overly crowded, Town Shoes sells out of nude pumps and you can’t get a manicure appointment until late June. It’s Prom season, and here are my last minute picks for a stylish soiree.

For the fashion forward female, this dress from Aqua, available at ASOS incorporates a few trends in a hot, futuristic look. Peplums popped up on the runways and are flattering for a woman’s curves. I love the origami folds and the punchy purple colour. This dress is at the top of my list.

These kicks from Stuart Weitzman feature a trendy mirrored cap toe, which was seen on the runways of Louis Vuitton. I love this pair because they have a thick heel and strap that will keep your foot in place and keep you comfy as you dance the night away. I think the toe cap is a stylish update on your standard pair of nude pumps.

For the minimalist, this mint dress from Tibi, available at Net-a-porter is like a dream. The soft chiffon is so elegant and it stands out amongst the awful cupcake taffeta frocks and bandage dresses. Style it with a pair of Grecian sandals, a gold metal chocker or statement earrings.

The Arty Ovale Ring from Yves Saint Laurent is becoming a modern classic. It’s the perfect piece to incorporate a trend without being too over-the-top… because you don’t want to cringe at your dress 10 years from now.

For the girly-girl, Betsey Johnson’s “Going out of Business” sale is a perfect opportunity to score an American classic. Johnson’s whimsical dresses are perfect for prom. This Bell Epoque Ruffle Dress¬†incorporates the fresh pastel colour palette for spring, and the runways’ affinity for 1920s style frocks. The ruffles flatter any body, and they’re super flirty. This blush pink dress would look great styled with a long strand of pearls, Buddha beads (if you’re going for a fresh, Cali vibe) or a jewelled vintage-inspired headband. Fresh and young, because sometimes it’s just nice to dress for your age while you still can!

So there you have it, my prom-night picks for the fashion forward, the minimalist, and the classic girly girl. The most important thing to remember is to be comfortable, confident and not worry about having a cutie or corsage on your arm! Okay, I’m exhausted from all these alliterations.
