Best & Worst Dressed: 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards

The Emmy’s are a time where all the thespians on the boobtube can strut their stuff and pick up gold statues for their work. I love television even more than I love movies, so I’m always looking forward to who gets the top nod and what they wear while accepting it. This year, the styles were bold, colourful and mermaid-like, with dozens of starlets stepping on the red carpet in jewel-tone gowns and dresses with mermaid trains. Here are my picks for best and worst dressed.

5. Kiernan Shipka in probably vintage and one-of-a-kind

This pint-sized starlet is a red-carpet darling! I love the way this dress is both modern and vintage, Sally Draper in the 21st Century!

4. Ginnifer Goodwin in Monique Lhuillier

This might be my controversial pick, but I think the acress looked stunning and fashion-forward in this orange gown. I love the high-low analogous hem and the gorgeous matching capped pointy-toe heels. (It’s so on-trend it hurts!) Ginnifer is so on trend, and I love the orange shade for fall… it only brings up good memories of pumpkin pie and PSL lattes.

3. Sofia Vergara in Zuhair Murad

Sofia looked like a stunning, latin mermaid in this teal beaded gown. I love the way she knows how to dress femininely and isn’t afraid to show off her figure. I call this look Vergara-va-va-voom! Oh and for the boys, follow the jump to see a wardrobe malfunction that makes me love her humble personality even more.

2. Heidi Klum in Alexandre Vauthier

I love how she’s managed to make the leg slit dress classy! (Take note Angelina!) The shoes are beautiful and I love her classic hair and accessories!

1. Zooey Deschanel in Reem Acra.

I loved the delicate pastel blue (how on trend!) chiffon gown she wore. It complimented her lovely fair skin (take that, fake-bake bitches of La-La-Land) and even better, I love the way she added her personality with these TV nail art.

Unfortunately, not all the stars on the red carpet looked their best. Here are my picks for the worst-dressed gals of the night.

5. Ashley Judd in Carolina Herrera

This looks like something you would find at the “mother-of-the-bride” section of Macy’s. Even though it has Carolina Herrera’s classic elegance, the silhouette is dated and drab on Ashley. And the brooch? Who wears brooches anymore? This isn’t retro at all. And the worst part? That burnt croissant that decided to sleep on top of her head.

4. Lena Dunham in Prada

Lena Dunham is talented, and her breakout series, Girls was definitely snubbed by the academy this year. (Here’s to hoping it will drive her to be even better next year). My TV views aside, this lace Prada number is too large and swallows her up, making her look bigger than she is! She also needs to lay off the eyeliner.

3. Phoebe Price in ???

This look is just a disaster. From the atrocious pumpkin spice platforms to the flamenco ruffles and irridescent fabric and tacky jewelry on her left arm. I like kooky done right (see January Jones, Ginnifer Goodwin) but this is just an amateur attempt at making a bold statement.

2. Nancy O’Dell in ???

Oh god. This happened last night. The dress almost ombre’s into her tan. It’s just so 80s, so awful, so tacky. She would have been the worst dressed if I had a clue who she is.

1. Julianne Moore in Dior Couture

It’s obvious who was the worst dressed this year. Even with a statuette in her arms, no gilded accessory could help this frumpy banana frock. Maybe it’s a celebrity endorsement for Chiquita? I hate the long sleeves and the disconnect between the thick skirt and sort of see-through upper half. Her hair was down and plain – I can even see her roots showing! And where are the Bulgari jewels? As a spokeswoman for the brand, I expected more. Even her nails aren’t done (proof that everyone should get ready with Zooey Deschanel for mani-parties before events) she just looks so sad, yet disgustingly cheery in this sunny hue. Not even a statement necklace or blue Chiquita sticker could save this look.
