On Sunday, the stars walked the red carpet and put on their best pre-Oscar face at the 2013 Screen Actor’s Guild Awards. Here’s my shortlist of the best, and worst dressed.
But first off, I would like to highlight one star in particular. I’ve always been obssessed with Kiernan Shipka’s retro girl style. She is a standout and is best dressed on another stratosphere with this Oscar de la Renta tea-length dress.
I also love her ankle-strap shoes. I can’t wait to see her grow up into a young woman, and hopefully evolve her Mad Men-inspired 60s wardrobe.
Amanda Seyfried in a Zac Posen gown. I love the flamenco mermaid style silhouette, her sleek hair and that long-chained purple necklace.
Jessica Chastain pulled off her best Jessica Rabbit impression in a tomato-red Alexander McQueen gown.
Naomi Watt’s silver Marchesa dress had a slim silhouette that let the intricate beadwork stand out.
Marion stunned in Dior once again with a modern style. It’s not your typical awards show gown, but I love the analogous hem, high waist and rich draped fabric.
Nina Dobrev was stunning in this minimalist Elie Saab creation with lace slit inserts. It was super sexy and modern, just like the young Canadian actress. This youthful colour stole the show, except for another young starlet who gets an honourable mention for worst dressed…
..Lea Michele in this hot pink Barbie gown with ombre hair.
Ariel Winter is picking up one of the hottest bridal trends when she donned this sorbet-coloured gown. The colour doesn’t work well on the red carpet and there’s something off-putting about how the sheer sleeves look too sheer. This dress would have been a hit in navy or black!
Another Modern Family star had a less-than-stellar look on Sunday… and surprise! It’s Sofia Vergara. I don’t know how you can make her look bad, she seriously looks amazing in a potato sack, but this Donna Karan gown is a shiny lame disaster. I hate the overbearing asymetrical straps (I thought we were over that), and the rouching hides Vergara’s amazing tush.
Julianne Moore showed off way too much cleave in this black and white Chanel gown. The bust area wasn’t tailored to her, and left her looking slouchy and flat. The distracting pattern at the bottom widened her hips and the colour overall made her look washed out.
The SAG Awards were predictable fashion-wise, with plenty in black gowns. The only exciting fashion moment was when Jennifer Lawrence’s Dior gown separated when she went onstage to accept her award for a little peek-a-boo of her amazing legs, and she went on to joke about her cool-looking inhaler and being in a promo for My Super Sweet Sixteen.
Please Academy, give her an Oscar so we can witness the best self-deprecating acceptance speech ever.
^^^ I take that all back. After seeing Jessica Chastain’s performance in Zero Dark Thirty, I can’t wait to see what Jessica Rabbit will wear on Oscar night when she picks up her trophy.
